Seems like I have to write more about all the events and post more pictures. :)
So let's just getting started.
Recharging myself after the last workshops which were really intense and full of power.
I'm still not able to post-product the new photos, there are so many of them.. my mind is not free for that.
However i just can't wait to sit by the computer with a cup of hot ginger tea and create some new pictures. Hope i'll reach the proper state of mind soon.
But you know what
I'm not just sitting and staring to nowhere.
I'll show you soon what i'm doing
Stay tuned :)
So...Do you remember a story about our house in the center of Porto? How did we find it, how we were searching for architects, how we were creating designs? This last days of 2015 we got good news, best present we could ever imagine for this New Year!
But first of all we want to express our appreciation to our dear architects from Virgula I.
For the great project, for their patience, for their advices, for doing everything maximum correctly, for speaking with us in our bad Portuguese, for their friendship.
If anybody need a professional team for realizing a project - I can advice you to go to Virgula I.
And now the best news itself - we have our project totally approved and will begin construction works soon!
For about 9 month we were in stand-by mode, keeping our fingers crossed, did not want to tell or to show anything to anybody.
Now I'll share some pictures with details of the current house condition we took today
and hopefully very soon I'll show you the changes.
I gonna have kind of a diary of the house, with all the stages of deconstruction, construction and decoration !
Well, let's start a virtual tour....

and sky is everywere!
It looks like it's time to tell you the next part of our "house story".
(For the beginning just scroll down the page.)
So one year and something ago we became happy owners of a small picturesque ruine with a lovely view in the centre of Porto.
Imagine 2 foreigners with actually not very high level of Portugues language (ok to be absolutely honest, my portuguese to that moment was about nothing), with almost zero knowleges about how to manage all of that staff, but with the great willing to live in a lovely house in our beloved city.
We decided to undertake a research to find out who could help us with all that paper things, project, engineering, building, etc.
We met many people, made lots of talks, small ones and big ones, were driving crazy of language difficulties and difference between our personal experience we brought from Russia and the one that we have here in Portugal. All the people we met were very nice and kind but somehow we did not feel "on the same wave" you know..
Well, after several month of searching after I posted on facebook for already 2nd or 3rd time something like "help us to build our house in Porto",
I got that message which became a beginning of the next stage in our story.
We got a proposal to meet and discuss everything from JP from Virgulai - group of architects based in Porto.
It was a really architectural gods' blessing - to be understood and to understand. Not only because of the possibility to speak english on a first stage. I'm talking here about some intellectual and spiritual things and speaking the same language does not mean literally the same language. It's about sence of beauty, right point of view, there are a lot of things.
Just several days passed after our first meeting as we already introduced all of the members of the group and after something about one month we've sighned a contract.
Thank you our dear architects so much, we're really really happy to meet you, work with you and be friends at the same time!
Soon gonna show you some pictures of a house, funny pictures of all of us, sketches and other parts of the creative process !
PS: Take a look at that place - everytime it's just a pleasure to come up to this office with such a beautiful view, right?
I do remember those several days very good.
It was that all things came together like in a puzzle.
Sasha showed me a picture of the old Porto (about 1960) he found on facebook, with a beautiful lighth and trees and athmospher and said that it is so magical and beautiful and that he is wondering now if it possible by any chance that this place is still like that, like on the picture.
Here it is, this old photo.
Then we went for a walk down the river to the left from the bridge Dom Luis and after several hundred meters looked up and Sasha said "Oh this place very look alike with the one from that old b&w picture".
It was quite late and dark to that moment and we decided to go back and check it up on the next day.
And we had really came back. On the next day after the lunch. We discovered the same old platans which are now much bigger and the same view and the same magic light.
And, which was really surprising, Sasha pointed me on a small house with a "For sale" tab and said that this is the one he had previously found on sale on internet but had no idea about it's location.
He was very exited and called a telephone number of agency. While he was calling, one guy appeared in the doors of a neighbour cafe and asked us if we are interested to see the house? If so, he would show it us immediately.
We said that of course we are.
He brought keys and we entered.
And this is what we had seen from the balcony of 1st floor.
(This particular picture was made later in the night though).
To be continued soon........
My dears, I gonna tell you a story, which is not finished though.
It is a story about one couple who felt in love with one town and decided to make it theirs home.
I gonna tell it neither in russian (which would be much easier) nor in portuguese (which would be more useful for studying it). But in english, my very small and bad english because we have many people involved and I would love them to be able to read it. So forgive me in advance.
It was the same kind of feeling which I had in Nepal. I mean when you suddenly find yourself inside of the picture you've previously seen only in movies.
And I really want to keep it here in chronological order from getting up in the early morning with a beautiful sunrise in our window to the last picture when my Iphone became completely unchurged and I stopped taking photos.
Today I suddenly got some free time for printing in darkroom. Parcel from "Maco" with 6 kg of paper was waiting for me for more than a week.. As far as I now have only few time for printing I use ready made lith developer by Moersch. By this reason I decided to follow advices given on Moersch website and ordered "Rollei vintage 132", "Adox mcc 110" and Foma "Fomabrom variant IV 123" which I never used before and "Foma Fomatone MG warm tone" which I know quite good.
Lucky me with deciding to start with Rollei )). It was perfect from the very beginning. Tones, grain, speed of lith, everything was great. I got some nice pictures very fast. Then I decided to try Adox.. Everything seems to be great in the beginning, lights and mid-tones were great but then when lith process in shadows had begun it went in a wrong way. All of the picture covered with white dots.
Then I took Foma "fomabrom 123". As it was expected lith on this paper was as always grainy and random with a "charcoal" effect. Developing speed was quite fast, about 6 minutes though. With Foma "fomabrome 112" everything was very similar but too long.. 40 minutes of developing.. Too much for me.
And finally - Foma "fomatone MG warm tone". Great as usual, fast developing, nice grain, rich half-tones, nice toning. Very similar to "Rollei vintage" but a bit softer and "greener".
And by now the conclusion is that whan I need to print something with face and body or perfect details, I have to use Rollei vintage or Fomatone. When I need "texture" and "rough" look or "charcoal" effect, I will use Fomabrom.
Today I have found out that because of the winter seasone in Porto it is not warm enough for lith printing. I had to warm up darkroom with heater and put developing tank inside another one with hot water.. Not a big problem though..)
While I'm waiting for a 6kg parsel with paper from Maco I had to print on what I got right now and these are partly suitable papers like Slavich Unibrom 160 BP and Foma Fomabrom 112 wich actually was good before but with other developers. . Also I got expired Extrabrom 111.
Well, I got epic fail with Foma Fomabrome 112 which all turned to turtle stains may be because of problems with paper emulsion..
But I was nicely surprised with Slavich Unibrom wich gave me effect of charcoal drawing and Foma Extrabrome wich was incredibly slow with developing but with nice color and texture.
So, here are examples straight from the washing tank
Everything was developed with easy lith Moercsh, t +25, dilution 1+1+20, with small add of antioxidant and anti-peppergrain effect.
It was not easy at all today to get in touch with printing process in my new improvised darkroom here in Porto.. New place, new chemicals.. I ordered couple of Moercsh lith kits and trying now to make friendship with them. Well at least enlarger is the same, I brought it from Sankt-Petersburg.
Somehow I'm not surprised that after hours in darkroom and many trashed prints the first one seemed to me a nice draft for future working on and which I decided to keep was print of Porto :)
Tomorrow I should order a lot of paper and got some fixer..
